Isthmian League –North Division
Witham Town 1 Great Wakering Rovers 2
With both teams wallowing at the wrong end of the table 3 points were defiantly the main priority for both managers.
The visitors started strongly and should have taken the lead early on, Martin Tuohy and Nathan Fuma going close to getting the opening goal however Towns keeper Rhys Madden was in fine form denying Rovers there goal
For obvious reasons both teams seemed edgy but you had the feeling that once one team scored the flood gates would open, and on 65 minutes the deadlock was finally broken.
Martin Tuohy picking up the ball and playing a sublime pass to Billy Johnson in acres of space, Johnson with still plenty to do powered forward to slot the ball past Madden to give the visitors the lead.
Witham knew this game was still in the balance and seemed to come alive once conceding the goal and on 72 minutes ex Rovers man Adam Vyse was on hand to grab the equaliser, tapping the ball in from close range.
Knowing a point a piece would not be enough to satisfy either manager both teams pressed forward for that winning goal.
On 78 minutes Billy Johnson’s sheer grit and determination saw him beat his man to cross the ball from the left hand side to find martin Tuohy who then smashed the ball in the Witham net from eight yards to give the visitors the lead.
In the closing minutes Rovers should have closed the game out completely with martin Tuohy going close on several occasions, however Rovers held on to take all 3 points.
