UNDERPERFORMING ROVERS PAY THE PRICE

Rovers fail to build on impressive win over Basildon to taste first defeat this season.
Rovers suffered their first defeat of the season with a below par performance against a determined Sawbridgeworth side.
Dan Trenkel made three changes to the team. Scott Keys replaced the unavailable Hepburn, Frankis came in for Nash and the manager left himself out for James Pugsley after the midfielder’s good display after coming off the bench against Basildon.
Rovers started poorly and were a goal down within ten minutes. Wappett, who was a thorn in Rovers side all afternoon curling a delightful 20 yard shot in to the top corner, although Rovers invited him to shoot and will feel they should have closed him down quicker.
Rovers did however have chances to equalise, Frankis and Hawkins both shot wide and Frankis and Sparrow both should have connected better with crosses into the box as the away side lacked the killer instinct.
It got worse for Rovers just before half time when a mistake by Gibson allowed Wappett a run on goal and eventually Williams swept the ball home.
Trenkel made 2 changes at the break, bringing himself and Dan Williams into the action for Mbamarah and Frankis. Rovers were pressing for a goal and were getting frustrated with Sawbridgeworth’s attempts to run the clock down, producing only 1 match ball for the second half.
After numerous missed chances eventually Rovers scored with 12 minutes left. Williams crossing for Trenkel to head home. 5 minutes later a second goal was scored when Williams got on the end of yet another dangerous delivery into the box.
Rovers looked like they had secured an unlikely point , but in injury time a high bouncing ball beat Drury and via deflection the ball flew past a helpless Godwin-Green and give Sawbridgeworth the win.
