ROVERS 0 - 2 BRENTWOOD TOWN

Rovers player-manager Dan Trenkel will have been immensely proud of the effort put in by his side, but frustrated that they failed to fully test Brentwood Town goalkeeper Elliot Justham during this entertaining clash at Burroughs Park.

Promotion chasing Brentwood named ex-Football League players Darren Blewitt and Kevin McLeod in their line-up, and it was clear from the start this was going to be a difficult evening for the Rovers.
Former Rovers player Steve Butterworth and Ex-Canvey Island man Ryan Edgar both shot wide with early chances, while Nick Skelton went close for the home side with a close range header.

Billy Johnson then tried his luck with a shot from distance, but chances were coming at a premium for Rovers. At the other end, it was starting to become a battle between Butterworth and “Green & Whites” Custodian Louis Godwin-Green. Firstly, the Rovers keeper pushed aside his free kick, and then he made a smart save with his feet when the Town midfielder looked certain to open the scoring.

Brentwood always looked the more likely to score and the goal finally arrived after forty minutes. Adam Holmes was booked for a heavy tackle on Danny Dafter. From the resulting free kick from Lee Blackburn, unlucky Rovers skipper Lewis Sparrow turned the ball into his own net.
Rovers came into the game more in the second half, but it was the visitors who almost doubled their advantage when Butterworth shot over following a well worked free kick.
After Edgar and Blewitt had gone close with a couple of attempts, Godwin-Green then denied Blackburn as the visitors piled on the pressure.

Eventually Brentwood found a second goal after seventy-seven minutes when Butterworth finally beat Godwin-Green from close range following a fine build up down the left flank.
Rovers tried to find a way back into the game, Justham dealt with Holmes free kick. Nevertheless, the visitors finished the stronger with Godwin-Green once again saving from Butterworth and then denying both Blewitt and Edgar.
