Cheshunt 2 - 0 Rovers

Rovers were unlucky not to come out of their first game of the season with more, after a defeat at Cheshunt. After a dominating display in the first half, where Rovers could easily have been four up, two goals in 5 minutes early in the second half, confined Rovers to an opening day defeat.

As early as the 12th minute, Rovers Danny Curran found himself 5 yards out but flashed a left footed shot wide of the post. Shortly after, George Smith's shot was blocked and Jamie Salmons effort was pushed over the bar by 'Ambers' keeper Ben Stone. Rovers continued to dominate play with some lovely passinh and were in control with Jamie Salmon, Jack Carlile and George Stevens bossing the match in the middle of the park. In the final third, Danny Curran and Luca Frankis were struggling to stay onside with a high Cheshunt defensive line. Going in at half time, Rovers would have been confident of grabbing a result.

It was not to be. With 49 minutes on the clock, a Cheshunt corner found Chris Meikle in the area and his header somehow found its way over the goaline much to the annoyance of Rovers captain and keeper Louis Godwin-Green. Less than 5 minutes later, another corner was floated towards the back post finding Meikle, who's shot bounced over Gavin Greenfield only to fall to an unmarked Josh Hutchinson to side foot under Louis Godwin-Green. Despite the two quick goals, Rovers continued to play their short passing game and created chances. Michael Pindy, missing the chance of the half, firing over the bar from just a few yards out.

As the ref blew to finish the game, it was a disappointing opening day for Rovers, who have, what will be a tougher game on Tuesday night with Maldon & Tiptree visiting Burroughs Park.
