Rovers won their first match in 10 games as they recorded a vital 1-0 win over relegation threatened Redbridge.
A goal from Jacob Cleaver was enough to give Gary Ansell’s team a much-needed victory in freezing conditions at Burroughs Park.
Neither side could gain control of the match in what was a tense battle. Rovers lost captain Lewis Sparrow early on with what is led to be a quad injury and yet another injury to a central defender for Ansell. Nick Skelton was on-hand to replace Sparrow, with Skelton himself coming back from a long term injury, and having only played 45 minutes for the Under 21's on Wednesday.
Cleaver grabbed the goal and it was a delightfully taken effort, as he clipped the ball beyond the despairing Motormen goalkeeper, Sam Sargent following a lovely through ball over the top.
Redbridge were threatening the Rovers goal, although they never truly tested stopper Adam Seal, who made just one true save midway through the first half, standing tall to prevent a close range effort. Sadly, Seal will miss next Saturday’s match at Thamesmead Town through suspension but it will give new signing from Brentwood, Matt Belcher, a chance to impress and stake a claim for the number 1 shirt.
Indeed, it should have been a more comprehensive result. Kris Newby was looking for his first goal in Rovers colours, having joined on a short-term deal from East Thurrock, and probably had the best chance to put the result beyond Redbridge, but was unable to find the target.
And Rovers held on for the points, moving into 15th.
