ROVERS HUMBLED BY STANWAY ROVERS

Rovers slumped to their third straight defeat on Saturday after being outmatched by Stanway Rovers.

Rovers almost broke the deadlock in the first few minutes when Harry Talbot had three successive corners delivered but were either defended well by Stanway or just missed the target.

However, it was Stanway Rovers who broke the deadlock after 28 minutes. A ball into the box was not cleared and Stanway’s Okoye smashed in the opener.

Things got worser two minutes later as Stanway found their second of the game. The ball was once again not cleared and Santa De La Paz smashed in a rebound into the roof of the net from close range.

The game managed to calm down after then and the Rovers were fortunate to go in at half time only two nil down.

HALFTIME: STANWAY ROVERS 2-0 ROVERS

Before kick off, Marcus Bowers made wholesale changes to his side but the second half started out how the first half ended as Stanway found their third of the game straight from kickoff from Conway.

There wasn’t much to report after the third goal as Rovers struggled to create opportunities against the stubborn defence of Stanway rovers.

It wasn’t until the 65th minute Rovers scored their goal. Harry Talbot’s corner was delivered into the back post where substitute Danny Cossington headed down into the goal where a Stanway defender seemed to had cleared the ball but the linesman had flagged to deem it a goal.

Rovers could of had a penalty shout when a cross was cleared but headed back in by Harry Talbot to Max Gnandi who turned his man but seemed to be tripped by a Stanway defender but the referee waved away appeals.

Stanway added their fourth of the game via a corner when substitute Freddy Cooper headed home with ten minutes to go which made a comeback for the Rovers impossible.

Max Gnandi almost grabbed a second for Rovers at the end when Harry Talbot’s shot was not cleared and Gnandi lashed a shot straight at goal which the keeper tipped over.
