GREAT Wakering Rovers’ interest in this year’s FA Trophy came to an end in comprehensive fashion in Suffolk.
James Baker scrambled home a ninth-minute opener for the hosts, but Rovers soon equalised as Jamie Salmon finished from close-range after good work from Bradley Warner.
But the hosts scored three goals — a brace from Nathan Clark and one from Ryan Henshaw — in the five minutes leading up to the break to effectively kill the tie.
Robbie Martin and Steve Wareham — with a penalty — then netted in the second half to seal the win.
Great Wakering caretaker boss Danny Heath said: “We were not lacking in terms of effort, but we just did not defend our box well enough.
“Four of their goals were from corners, one was from a cross, and the other was a penalty.
“We did well from an attacking point of view — we hit the post three times.
“But with the 4-3-3 formation we played they had too much space to overload our full-backs, and they made the most of that.
“I take responsibility for that, and in hindsight I think we should have gone 4-4-2.”
