MATCH REPORT

Unlucky rovers narrowly lose out to league leaders Tilbury on Tuesday evening underneath the floodlights.

Marcus Bowers would have been much pleased with organisation of the defence, as they did not allow any shots that could threaten their goal. Tilbury did have chances to break the deadlock but the Rovers defence stood firm. It was end-to-end stuff with not many clear cut opportunities for either side.

Tilbury had the first chance on target at goal on 26 minutes when a cross across the rovers area was met by a Tilbury attacker inside the box. The shot seemed destined to nestle into the bottom left corner but Kingdom Dawson made a great diving block to keep the clear away the danger.

It wasn’t until just before half-time rovers had the best opportunity of the half. Max Gnandi was brought down on the edge of the Tilbury box, when their defender halted the forwards run which resulted in injuring himself and receiving a caution and being subbed off. Harry Talbot stepped up on the free kick and is curling shot went just wide of the keeper’s near post.

HALFTIME: ROVERS 0-0 TILBURY

The second half saw a lot more action, end to end stuff. It wasn’t until the 77th minute Rovers had the best chance to break the deadlock. A quickly taken throw in from Jake Gordon was passed onto Max Gnandi who was one-on-one with the keeper but the is low shot was brilliantly saved and cleared by the Tilbury defence.

Tilbury had a chance soon after, their attacker was played through who was one-on-one but Blockley made a good parry at his near post.

However, it was heartbreak for the Rovers when Tilbury scored the only goal of the nigh two minutes from time. A cross was delivered into the box and was headed across goal where Tilbury’s defender Donovan was there to head the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal.

Rovers continued to create chances and apply pressure towards the dying embers of the game but could not find that elusive goal. They were dealt a further blow when attacker Ben Search was sin binned for dissent. Tilbury did have one final opportunity of doubling their lead on the last second of the game when they had a free kick on the edge of the Rovers box. But Dan Blockley made a great save, tipping a ball over the top right of the goal.
