Rovers take the limelight at Burroughs Park

Despite the Rovers playing host to their League Two neighbours Southend United, it was the Essex Senior home side who took the limelight, putting in a sterling effort to stun The Blues twice.

A crowd of over 500 saw Rovers take the lead through a Billy Johnson freekick within the first ten minutes. Luke Prosser then brought Southend back on par with a powerful header at the back post. But it would be Rovers who would take the lead again, Luca Frankis firing a right foot shot across the goal to stun both the crowd and The Blues players.

Gavin Tomlin equalised in the 37th minute, pouncing on a rebound to slot home from close range. The Blues then took the lead for the first time in the match, Elliot Benyon placing the ball in the net following a long ball from the back which caught out the Rovers defence.

Rovers boss Dan Trenkel was beaming after the match as he saw many positives from his team that he will take into the next pre-season friendly on Friday evening, away at Concord Rangers.
