Rovers beaten by a solitary goal as they strive for their first home win against Grays.

Rovers continue to search for a home win against Grays as they lost out by the narrowest of margins in their first game of 2012. New boss Dan Trenkel still searches for his first victory as manager but if the last two performances are anything to go by, that victory will not be far from the horizon.

Rovers began well and could have been a goal up within 2 minutes, Billy Johnson glancing a header only for Tony Tucker to expertly tip round the post with a save of the season.

Grays then started to find their feet in the game and the Rovers defence found themselves under more pressure. However, the pressure failed to bring a save out of Louis Godwin-Green and the half finished level.

The second half began as the first half ended with Grays in the ascendancy. Yet the Rovers defence held well and got men behind the ball, a positive showing as Dan Trenkel works to stem the flood of goals that Rovers have conceded this season. But in the 50th minute, a goalmouth scramble, and the ball found the back of the net with Kenny Beaney wheeling away with the final touch.

As Rovers pushed in the last 15 minutes, they created chances but failed to make them count, both Jacobs and Frankis failing to convert.

With James Stevens and Ashley Hawkins unable to play as their registration papers did not reach the league due to the festive postal delays, one must ask if these players may have made a difference? One thing remains and that is that Trenkel would have enjoyed the selection option.
