Abbey condone Rovers to their 4th straight defeat

Rovers lost their 4th game on the bounce after this 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Waltham Abbey.
Despite starting strong, with Ashley Hawkins stinging the hands of keeper Richard Hayward, Rovers continued to have the better openings. Winger Billy Johnson was lively down the right and found himself in on goal on a number of occassions within the first 30 minutes but lacked composure to find the net.

However Max Drury was called upon to make a headed goal line clearance after just 5 minutes and Louis Godwin-Green was at his best to keep out a defensive clearance by Lewis Sparrow following a fierce ball into the area.
Louis Godwin-Green was the hero again making a superb reaction save to touch the ball onto the bar in the 20th minute.

Just before half time Waltham Abbey could have grabbed the lead after a good long distance free kick by keeper Hayward, found its way through to Steve Cawley, whose toe poke flashed past the left hand post.

Unfortunately for Rovers, the second half wouldn't match up to the efforts in the first and conceded two goals that were well set up.

Abbey's first goal came in the 61st minute, midfielder Steve Cawley on the end of some neat inter-play in the Rovers box, to side foot a shot past the keeper. Abbey doubled their lead in the 80th minute with a goal of real quality from Jon Sheel. Again some nice passing set the ball up for Sheel who unleashed an effort that had goal written all over it from the moment it left his foot.
It was enough to kill off Rovers who now have to pick themselves up for an away match at bottom side Ware in what manager Dan Trenkel will be expecing his first win.
