Media Manager Rob Lilley talks to manager Dan Trenkel

Your thoughts on the season so far as we approach Christmas?
It’s been an interesting few months. We’ve thankfully had more ups than downs so far and it’s been a learning experience for us all. I think now though everyone is on the money in terms of commitment and attititude.

How impressed have you been of opposing teams this season?
I think we have suffered a bit in terms of most teams have raised their levels massively when facing us. We have heard the ridiculous shouts from opposition time and again this season saying we’ve all got all this money etc, which couldn’t be further from the truth. Rovers have always lived well within their means and always will. Every team we have come up against has been well organised and every team is prepared to roll their sleeves up and work hard , which is exactly what I expected.

Who has been the best opponents faced so far in the league?
Bethnal Green without a doubt. On the day we played them they were a far superior outfit with some fantastic footballers and 11 strong men. It made me look at our side and change some areas where we needed strengthening.

What would you like to see the team do better in games?
At the moment I just want them to continue to keep playing the way they have been. You always want your team to play to 100% of their capabilities and I am no different.

Some of the goals we have scored this season have been top drawer, and clearly better than last season. Has there been any training where this is concerned or do players just have more confidence this season?
We have always encouraged players to shoot on sight. Obviously confidence plays a huge role in that and I think we’ve seen when players are on form they are more inclined to take on shots. Some of our players have fantastic technique so we always want them to take a chance.

Are you targeting top of the league for Christmas?
Absolutely. That will be the aim of every team in the mix at the moment. There are some really good sides there and we have to keep on grinding out wins to stay on track.

You've brought in two very experienced players in Richard Halle and Danny Heale. What are your thoughts on them now they've been in and around the squad for a couple of weeks?
I think I said it on Twitter at the weekend, they have come in and showed why they have been where they’ve been in their careers. After the Bethnal game especially it made me realise we lacked experience. I don’t think I could have signed two better players than these two. Rich won the Ryman Premier last season, and Healesy is a proven goalscorer at Premier level. I am very lucky to have them and the aura that surrounds them has rubbed off on some of the other lads who have upped their games aswell. They are two model pro’s, they know the game inside out and they ooze quality.

Playing Richard Halle at centre back proved to be a good move judging from last weekends Man of the Match performance. Does this give you something to think about?
Rich can play in any position on the pitch. His positional sense and talking helps others around him and I don’t think it matters where we play him he will do well.

Ty Benjamin coming back to full fitness is a major plus point. Do you feel we've missed some bite in the centre of the park?
I think missing bite wouldn’t be entirely accurate to say as I feel John Mbamarah is in that mould of being a player who breaks up play. I still think John has loads to learn and in terms of knowing the game Ty is a few years ahead of him. John will be a fantastic player when we’ve finished teaching him his position, but he can learn from Ty and how he does the nasty bits and his aggressiveness in a good way to win us the ball.
Again, Ty is a Ryman Prem standard player when fully fit. Me and him are on the same wavelength and I will manage him as to how his body reacts on a game by game basis.

It's London Bari this weekend in a clash which could maintain/increase Rovers lead at the top of the table against a team many believe to be promotion hopefuls. What are your thoughts on them after your first leg defeat in the League Cup?
Bari are a top side no doubt about it. If you can afford to sign players for 2-300 a week then you are going to have a good side that is a no brainer. I enquired as to the availability of a player about a month ago who ended up signing for them for a lot of money. I’m not surprised they are near the top. Whether they are promotion hopefuls remains to be seen as there are question marks over their ground etc but that’s not for me to worry about.

.....what are your thoughts for this weekend's game?
We’ll go there confident. We’ll go there to win. We’ve got the players to win, everyone is on form and looking forward to it.
