Media Manager Rob Lilley catches up with 6-goal hero Gary Paterson following Rovers 6-3 win over Southend Manor in the Essex Senior Cup

I managed to speak to Gary Paterson today, the day after his stunning performance in the Essex Senior Cup.

You grabbed 6 last night against your former club. Does that make it a little more special?
Yes, of course it does. Any goal against a former club, against players you played alongside for any period of time is good. To get 6 wasn't something I thought would happen at the start of the game, but looking back, it's a nice achievement. Ultimately though, I'm glad we're into the next round with the chance of playing a league side.

Looking back at your time at Manor, do you see any differences in the clubs?
I'll admit, we do seem to have a lot more ambition at Rovers and I feel we're moving forward with every game together.

I'm sure this season you'll be looking to hit plenty more goals compared to last?
To be honest, I didn't play much last season due to injuries and that was a really frustrating time for me. Every striker wants to get out there and find the net every game. I'm targeting 30 goals this season.

Trenks has agreed that you're not yet fully fit. Surely a game like that is a major boost?
Absolutely. I've a few more games to get under my belt before I would consider myself to be match fit. In my mind I'm doing the right things, getting into good positions like last night, but the lungs and legs still need a bit more time.

There was a little controversy as to who scored Rovers 4th, Spazza or yourself. It was eventually awarded to yourself.
We were both sliding in at the far post completely unmarked and determined to get on the end of it. In the end, we both did well to get there but being the forward, it's my goal!

You're probably not aware but the 6-goals is a record for Rovers in our recorded history. The previous record holder was Trenks, with 5 goals against Potters Bar in 2010. Do you have anything to say to your manager?
Yes, now it's his turn to try and get his record back, but to score 7 is a big ask. It's still a shock to score 6 at Senior level!
When you have as many talented players as we have who want to work hard for each other, sometimes just being in the right positions, they'll find you.
