Keith Wilson earned his first points as Rovers manager as a Jake Gordon double, on his return to the club, proved enough to see off Soham Town Rangers.
Rovers were looking to avoid a record 10th straight defeat as they continue to struggle in the Ryman North this season.
Wilson was looking to get his first points on the board, after back-to-back defeats opened his Wakering reign, with this match earmarked as one where points were a realistic possibility.
A host of new names were playing for Wakering, although one of them was in the wars early on. Former East Thurrock full-back Jimmy Nottage was replaced by Bradley Nobbs in the first 22 minutes.
The decisive moment came seven minutes after the break, and it was Gordon scoring his first. The striker only re-joined from Bowers & Pitsea in the last week and he made an immediate impact.
And 15 minutes later Gordon was at it again, netting to the delight of the travelling support, but less than 60 seconds later that advantage was halved.
Ryan Sharman scored for the hosts and despite attempts to draw level, it was Rovers that took a hugely important win.
