Rovers let a two-goal lead slip as they fell to their first defeat of the season against Wroxham. Somewhat of a hoodoo team for Rovers, the club has never tasted victory in five previous encounters.
Dan Trenkel’s men, who have started the season with three wins and a draw, came into the match as underdogs but were on the verge of causing another upset, after strikes from Max Kent, Lewis Sparrow and Jay Nash had put them 3-1 up by half time.
But they were unable to deny the Norfolk side, who will be amongst the favourites to challenge at the top this term.
Kent had opened the scoring after just two minutes with his first of the season only for Jordan King to level the match five minutes later.
Sparrow headed Rovers back in front and when Nash slid in just before half-time it looked as though it was going to be another happy day for Trenkel’s men.
The turning point was arguably a miss by Billy Johnson moments into the second half, and the away side appeared to use this as the catalyst to change gear with Nick Davey making it 3-2 with half an hour to go.
Nathan Stone capped off a brilliant day for himself and his side, grabbing the equaliser and winning goal in a 9 minute spell which took the game away from Rovers and the points back to Norfolk.
