Match report Vs Tilbury

Tuesday 20th August-Bet Victor Isthmian league-North

Great Wakering Rovers 2 Tilbury 0

On Tuesday evening Great Wakering Rovers welcomed Marc Harrison`s Tilbury to Burroughs park.
On the back of Saturdays opening day win Rovers were looking to make it two wins in a row, and there were some familiar faces in the Tibury side as we welcomed back John Easterford,Sam Carter, and Eljay Worrell who are now all plying there trade for the Dockers.
As expected the game started brightly with chances for both sides and Tibury were unlucky not to go in front ,Rovers stopper Bobby Mason saving well from a 25 yard screamer from Ola Ogunwamide.then Ogunwamide went even closer striking the post after a great run and shot.
However it was the home side that took the lead on the 34th minute when Jack Stevenson made the most of some scrappy defending to grab his third of the season.
Half time Great Wakering Rovers 1 Tilbury 0

Great Wakering came out of the blocks the fastest in the second half and were camped in the Tibury half early on; however Tilbury were always a threat going forward, the Rovers defence were unbreakable, great defensive work from the home side stopped everything Tilbury threw at them and the team work throughout the side was impeccable.
With the visitors looking for the equaliser and pushing more upfront Rovers were able to find gaps at the back, but it wasn’t till the 88th minute that the points were in the bag, a great break forward was finished off by Jake Gordon who grabbed his first of the campaign, and the Greenboys were unlucky not to go three up, the post saving Tilbury this time after the attempt by Billy Johnson.
An excellent all round team performance saw Rovers take six points from six, but the most pleasing aspect was the work rate and determination from the whole side.
