Rovers win

Saturday 21st September-Bet Victor Isthmian League –North

Saturday saw the visit of Witham Town to a sunny Burroughs Park in the Bet Victor North division.
Both teams came into the game in good form, and Rovers manager Stephen Butterworth has made it clear that he believes the games between Witham and clubs predicated to do the same this year are must win at any cost.
Witham started brightly and took the game to Rovers who looked more like the visitors than the hosts in the opening stages; in fact Town nearly took the lead from a well worked free kick, but in form Bobby Mason punched the ball away and the follow up was spurned by Ryan Ramsey whose shot went wide.
On the 11th minute Rovers took the lead when Alfie Hilton rolled the ball into the net following a defensive mix up, in truth Hilton probably won’t have an easy chance this season, but as they say you have to be in it to win it and he made no mistake dispatching the ball into the empty net.
Witham didn’t let their heads drop and still pilled on the pressure away from home, however you always had the feeling Rovers had another gear if needed

The opening minutes of the 2nd half were always going to be crucial and it was Rovers who decided that a shift in gear was needed if all 3 points were going to be theirs, Jake Gordon fired a volley which the keeper pushed away and Hilton was quick on the follow up directing his shot into the corner of the net and giving the hosts that much needed 2 goal cushion, and Hilton could of grabbed his first hatrick for Wakering but saw his shot deflected behind for a corner kick.
Witham came back at Rovers but it was too little too late for the visitors and the Rovers defence were impeccable dealing with anything and everything Witham threw at them.
Manager Butterworth has asked for his team to go unbeaten in the month of September and the Green Boys are now 1 game away from the target
