Ansell opens up following his resignation.....

I don't want the club to be split regarding me as manager, I love them to bits
- Gary Ansell

Gary Ansell sais he had no choice to resign as Rovers manager after he felt he couldn't defend recent performances to the club's board.

Ansell stepped down almost a year to the day that former manager Dan Trenkel quit as boss, following a disappointing starts to the season.
And Ansell said he gre so frustrated having built a squad he felt was capable of fighting towards the upper end of the league, only for players to be poached as the team was nearing completion.

"It was a tough one" he said. "I have been associated with the club for almost 5 years and I have enjoyed 95% of it. Taking over was a proud moment and I got to the point in the summer where I got a little budget increase and I said I would deliver a stronger squad in terms of personnel and results".

"I have made some good signings, Liam Nash, Tommy Spillane, Leon Gordon, Kris Newby and more, but down to the club's financial muscle, geography and lack of contracts, keeping players was hard. I am paying expenses and not mortgages and it is so frustrating. Last years squad was a committed squad of mates and maybe I got it slightly wrong and needed to go in between that camaraderie. Two weeks ago I was very stressed".

"It is a 24 hour job and you are constantly watching games and I have a 10 year old lad who I was seeing less and less of. I was losing the faith but there were chinks of light at times where you thought it was the turning point. Last Saturday against Cheshunt we were very good in the first hald and poor after that. But on Tuesday, against Heybridge, was horrific and I was embarrassed and couldn't enjoy it. I couldnt go to the committee and defend my players."

Ansell was assistant manager when Rovers won the Essex Senior League in 2014, and he said he felt whoever replaced him woould have enough time to turn their season around. Rovers are currently 22nd in the Ryman North, with 13 points from 15 games, and have now lost 5 on the bounce.

But the outgoing Ansell says the team can turn it around. "I felt the club was at a point where I couldn't take it further" he said. "I don't want the club to be split regarding me as manager, I love them to bits."

"I hope they stay up this year as everyone there is superb. I know we are around the relegation zone, but whoever comes in has a good amount of time to put it right. The weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I am now able to get more stuck into work and spending time with my family".

"That said, if the perfect job came up, I would consider it".
