John Galley on 2016 and the future.....

A truly sincere welcome to all,

I thought I would just write a few words to end the year with, as we push ever closer and into 2017.

What a really interesting year we have had!! Unfortunately our football did not quite live up to its billing on the pitch, then a change of Chairman, then a Director of Football was appointed and we ended up with a change of Manager. I have enjoyed taking up the reins in my new role of Chairman, unexpected as it was, however, with the backing of the Committee have made changes already and there are a lot more for 2017.

‘Willo’ was appointed at the beginning of November, and as a committee, we have given him our full backing and support and knew that with the Christmas programme things would be very difficult but have targeted the first couple of weeks in January to start our slow but sure recovery. With the number of players coming and going and the mixture of experience and youth that we have now signed over the past 7 weeks, the squad is slowly looking like a group that can dig deep and start to fight for the points. Of course there will still be changes, but that is football and that’s what keeps us on the edge of our seats.

A terrific crowd on Boxing Day proved to me that the core of our true football supporters will be there through thick and thin. Some have expected miracles already, however the majority of us are realistic and are 100% behind the Gaffer and the boys. It was a real throw back on Boxing Day to see old boys like Cleve, OC, Wilko, Heffer plus many more coming along to support the lads. This shows the sort of interest and buzz that has been created by Willo in such a small space of time and there will be plenty more to come. Great banter in and around the ground and it was certainly lively afterwards which is getting the good old times back for the social, off the field closeness.

2017 will see more changes in and around the Club, but now we have a solid, spine in place for the long term on the football side, I can start to chip away at the dead wood and look to put things in place to grow the club for future years.

It is only a few years now to our centenary year, which will be fun packed and very much in the public limelight. A new main sponsor will be in place by then and with the help of the media, we will make sure that our club is the centre of as much positive, public attention as possible. This will be just another string to the bow of this great village and the community that support it. We will create terrific interaction with the village and look to promote sport and wellbeing in the community, especially with the youth element and look to engage many more people at the Club.

With a good Alliance and fantastic Youth set up, all the way down to the age of 4 years old, the future is very bright and I am looking forward to the next year and see where we can guide the club with your help.
