Preparations start for new season.....

Enthusiastic volunteers, whether that be Committee members or ‘Friends of Rovers’ will make for a better club and a progressive season for us all

Hi all,

So the close season is upon us and no longer are we concentrating on players, it's time to focus on the ground.

I can start proudly by mentioning our pitch. The pitch experienced huge usage towards the end of the season, with many cup finals and club hires, and it is testament to the ground staff as to how the pitch took the strain right to the very end. Like most seasons it did become quite dry but it has been a long time since I've seen the amount of grass as we saw on the pitch at the end of a season.

On Monday 11th May the ground staff began to dig up the pitch where necessary and level. This was followed by vertidraining, fertilising and seeding, to be left to settle for the next couple of months for watering and hopefully decent amounts of sunshine, in readiness for our 1st pre-season game.
Note: A full update of club pre-season fixtures will follow this article following final confirmation with our oppositions.

Pre-season at the club doesn’t just centre around the Pitch but the stadium and clubhouse. Our band of volunteers are always valued an appreciated but we're always happy to see new faces.
We have internal cleaning & re-decoration works along with general repairs both inside and around the ground.

If you are willing to provide some hours to help then drop me a line and we can put you to work! :)

The teams are taking some time out to rest and re-charge, and most players will be back soon for preseason training. As with most seasons there will be some form of selection process, whether that be the 1st team/ 21’s/ 18’s/ 15’s or our newly formed Ladies, but all will be looking to start the season in a positive frame of mind and a pitch that good football can be played on.

Finally, we've moved our online presence back to Pitchero. We feel this will aid our webmaster Rob Lilley in the long run, but also free up some of his time to devote on other club things, such as our programme. Keep an eye on the website (www.gwrovers.com) for news on work parties, trials and of course pre-season friendlies as well as all other news relating to your club.

Lets hope this close season fly's by so we can get to see some football, being played by the team we love, at the place we call our second home, Burroughs Park.

The Future Is Bright, The Future Is Green & White

Tony Butcher
